The National Identification Number-NIN (pronounced as “Neen”) is a unique number issued to a successful enrolled individual This number is randomly generated and it is issued for life.

The NIN is used to tie all records about an individual into the National Identity Database and is also used as a valid means of establishing or verifying individual identity.

How can I get my NIN?

A Transaction Slip is given out after enrollment is successful. The applicant is advised of the collection date for his or her NIN.

  • opening personal bank accounts

What do I do if I lost my NIN?

If you lost your NIN slip and want another one, Pay a token of N500 through REMITA at any bank nearest to you; provide your Remita Teller to any NIMC Enrolment Centre (ERC) near you and request for a NIN slip print.

Can I register again if I lost my NIN?

No. You do not need to enrol again. There are two steps to take:

  • Go to the nearest ERC and supply your phone number, DOB or fingerprints and your NIN will be given to you.
  • NIN can be retrieved using a USSD code *346# (Available on all Networks and cost N20).

There are two options:

  • Retrieval, with the phone number given/supplied at initial enrolment.
  • Search, with any phone number while providing your key information.

What is the cost of getting a national e-ID card?

Currently, the National e-ID Card is free upon initial issuance. However, there will be a charge for replacement or renewal.

How to Know if your NIN Card is Ready?

Visit www.nimc.gov.ng, the website of the National Identity Management Commission [NIMC], to see if your National Identity Number (NIN) card is ready.

To see if your card is ready and now available at the activation center, scroll down the homepage and click on “e-ID Card Status Portal.

“Hit the “check now” icon after entering your first and last names as well as your NIMC check tracking ID.
